BEN Motorcycle Rally dates announced for 2013

BEN is a UK charity which helps people who have worked or still work in the automotive industry.  The charity offers all sorts of support to these automotive workers or ex workers and their families and dependants, including: nursing support or residential care for older people and practical emotional or financial support to families.

BEN do various fundraising activities throughout the year and they have just announced one of the most exciting ones - the BEN Motorcycle Rally which is taking place in June this year.

The dates for the BEN Motorcycle Rally have now been published and are the 22nd to the 25th of June 2013.

The rally travels through four countries in four days from Dover to Italy.  It is a beautiful and dramatic route, taking in the Stelvio pass in Italy, the second highest mountain pass in the Alps at 9,045 feet with sixty hairpin bends! The pass is towered over by the "Three Languages Peak" so named because this is where the Italian, German and Romansh languages meet. Top Gear named the Stelvio pass as one of their top ten roads in the world and it has truly amazing views of the mountains and valleys from its multiple hairpin bends - a true 'drivers road'.

Officially the Rally is over four countries in four days but the organisers recommend leaving on the evening of the Friday June 21st to do the first fifty miles to Bethune, thereby taking the pressure out of the first day.

The rally covers a weekend so as not to take too many days out of the working week and returns to England on Tuesday 25th of June.

Here is the itinerary for the Rally to give you an idea of what's involved:

  • Friday Evening 21 June 2013 (Optional but recommended): Dover - Béthune Distance: Approx. 50 miles
  • Saturday 22 June 2013: Béthune - Mulhouse
Distance: Approx. 360 miles (410 miles including Friday's distance)
  • Sunday 23 June 2013: Mulhouse - Stelvio Distance: Approx. 245 miles
  • Monday 24 June 2013: Stelvio - Saint-Dié-des-Vosges
    Distance: Approx. 325 miles
  • Tuesday 25 June 2013: Saint-Dié-des-Vosges - Dover
    Distance: Approx 350 miles

Making your ride count

This Rally is a unique and exciting personal challenge for anyone participating and a chance to test themselves and their machines on some really spectacularly beautiful roads.  The object of the Rally is to raise funds for BEN and the organisers ask each rider to raise as much in sponsorship as they can. There is a fundraising guide on the BEN website if you need some ideas or you can just think of your own crazy original ones.

Entry Fee

It costs £475 to enter and this covers one bike, accommodation for two people (sharing), ferry crossings, evening meals and breakfasts. Fuel and tolls will have to be covered as well on top of this. There is no minimum sponsorship requirement BEN just asks participants to raise as much sponsorship money as possible. The team which collects the most sponsorship money will win the Sponsorship Challenge Trophy.

People entering the Rally will need to check their motorcycles thoroughly to make sure that they are ready for the challenge of the mountain roads and covering all those miles.  Also, and obviously, the right gear will be needed for variable conditions and temperatures on those high passes.

Everyone's a winner!

The team which raises the most money for the charity will get a prize and every participant will get a souvenir of the BEN motorcycle Rally Challenge.

There are only thirty places available for this Rally so if you do want to go then book soon - Book the BEN Rally
