John McGuiness - TT Legend - New book out!

Second only to the famous Joey Dunlop, John McGuiness is one of the most famous and successful TT road racers in the world.  He has been racing for eighteen years, and during that time has won numerous races, set lap records at the NW200, the Ulster Grand Prix and Scarborough, and was the first man to break the 130mph barrier at the Isle of Man TT in 2007.  Now his story, told in his own worlds and covering his whole racing career from his debut in1996 to the present day, has been released as a book entitled 'John McGuiness TT Legend'.

The Morecambe missile

John McGuiness has been racing for 18 years now so it's high time his story was told, and who better to tell it than the man himself . His new book has been written in collaboration with the great photographer and author Stephen Davison, and tells the story in his words, illustrated with pictures of him in action.  The book is totally current too, with photographs and race results from the 2012 season just gone.

Photo finish

It is a visual treat for all race fans as well, with over 150 photos by Stephen Davison plus some new, never before seen photos from John McGuiness' own private collection, showing him in action throughout his career.  There are also some pictures of him as a child  and a feature in the daily Mirror when he was four and was already riding a motorcycle!

Warts and all

The book is an honest and in depth look at the behind the scenes world of racing and examines how it actually feels to be John McGuiness. What it's like on the grid at the start of a race and what goes through his head, how it feels to win and what it's like to lose friends in the sport, which he admits is dangerous. It's a no holds barred, up close and personal vision of his racing career and his life with his wife and children.

As well as personal revelations and stunning photos, the book is full of statistics and racing facts which will be fascinating to road race fans the world over.

Smile please

Stephen Davison who wrote the book with him is a long time road racing fan who saw his first race in 1974 and has been a fan ever since. He as written many bestselling books on the subject and received awards for his photography. He is joint owner of the prestigious photographic agency Pacemaker Press.

All in all this book is a great read and really conveys the passion, drive and ultimate love for the sport which keeps John McGuiness going.  If you have a race fan in the family it would be a good Christmas present.

In the words of the man himself:

"I’m still strong in my eighteenth year of racing – my head’s still totally focused on what I want to do and that’s to ride motorbikes faster."

The book is available in various places on line including the IOMTT website
